Job Summary:
The Ship Agent is responsible for providing comprehensive support and assistance in coordinating and executing various activities related to maritime operations. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with ship owners, port authorities, agents, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of vessel arrivals, departures, and cargo operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate vessel arrivals, departures, and cargo operations, including but not limited to loading, unloading, and transshipment activities.
2. Liaise with ship owners, charterers, and port authorities to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and requirements.
3. Arrange necessary services such as pilotage, towage, and bunker supply as per vessel requirements.
4. Prepare and process relevant documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations, and port clearances.
5. Monitor vessel schedules and provide regular updates to all stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely information flow.
6. Collaborate with internal departments and external service providers to resolve operational issues and minimize disruptions.
7. Handle and resolve any customer inquiries or complaints related to vessel operations.
8. Maintain accurate records of vessel activities, cargo movements, and port expenses.
9. Prepare and submit operational reports to management as required.
10. Stay updated with industry regulations, trends, and best practices to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in ship agency or maritime operations, preferably within the transportation and logistics industry.
3. Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations, port operations, and cargo handling procedures.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
5. Proficiency in using relevant computer applications and software for data management and reporting.
6. Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities to handle multiple vessel operations simultaneously.
7. Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and data management.
8. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
9. Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve operational issues promptly.
10. Flexibility to work outside regular business hours when necessary, including weekends and holidays.
